Artist Biography: Okumura Shimmyo (Chikatae). Go=Baio, Bunkaku, Hogetsudo, Masanobu, Shidoken, Tanchosai. Printmaker, painter, publisher in Edo. Important and influential innovator, studied briefly with Kiyonobu. Began illustrating by 1701, 1724 began publishing his own prints. One of the first to change from hand coloring to color printing after its invention in 1741, inented several print types (see Roberts dictionary), and set the fashion for the bijinga (single sheet portraits of famous beauties).
