Artist Biography: Allen Lewis was born in Mobile, Alabama, April 7, 1873. He was educated in public schools in Buffalo and New York; studied in the Buffalo Art Students League with George Bridgman; Ecole des Beaux Arts, Paris, with Gerome. Exhibited at Paris Exposition, 1900, under name of Arthur Allen Lewis. Taught printmaking at Art Students League, New York, 1924-1932; also at New School for Social Research, New York, 1932-1934. Recieved many awards and is represented in museums throughout the United Sates and in The British Museum and the Bibliotheque Nationale, Paris. Elected National Academition, 1935. He illustrated many books.
