Artist Biography: painter; born in Baumgarten (suburb of Vienna) as son of an engraver (Ernst K.); studied at the Art School connected to the Austrian Museum in Vienna; set up a studio together with his brother Ernst and Franz Matsch; did work for theater architects, mainly decorative-allegorical in character; the co-operation of the three artists ended in 1892 with the death of Klimt's brother; K. did not produce any work for almost six years, due to a personal crisis; around 1898 he joined the "Wiener Sezession" movement, and underwent influence of the work of late impressionists; later, K. did illustrations for the Austrian Artists Magazine "Ver Sacrum"; his work gradually becomes more and more esoteric;
