Artist Biography: Luigi Loir was born in Goritz, Austria, of French parents. In 1853 he entered the School of Fine Arts in Parma, Italy. He went to Paris in 1863 and debuted in the Salon of 1865 with his Landscape of Villiers-sur-Seine. By 1870 and for the remainder of his career Loir was successful as a chronicler of urban and provincial France through his paintings, watercolors, and lithographs. Loir died in Paris.
