Artist Biography: Born in San Fele, Italy on Oct. 14, 1898 (although his death record states Oct. 15, 1890). Came to US (NYC) at age of three and was educated by private tutors. Studied at the ASL in NYC from 1913-1915 under J. Fraser, Herbert Adams, and Paul Manship. Came to SF in 1915 to work on a sculpture for the PPIE, worked in the studio of Dirk Van Erp; traveled extensively for four years and returned to SF in 1921; taught at SF Institute of Art (dismissed in 1923), later taught at UC Berkeley and CCAC (1964-1965). Died in SF on August 16, 1970. (Hughes, vol. II)
