Artist Biography: Poster artist. Born to French parents on 24 January 1901. Student in Paris by 1915. Attended AcadÈmie Julian. Produced his first poster in 1924 for Bucheron, a furniture maker. Shortly thereafter combined the initials of his real name with his chosen name to sign his work: A. M. Cassandre. In 1926 founded Alliance Graphique with Maurice A. Moyrand. Firm produced posters for British and French companies until Moyrand died in 1934. 1936-1939 lived in New York and created illustrations for Harper*s Bazaar. Returned to Paris and for the rest of his life worked in theater design.~~Reference: Delhaye, Jean. Art Deco: Posters and Graphics (New York: st.
